I have to admit, I am still warming up to social media and blogging. As much as I am excited about wedding blogs and seeing all of the detailed hair and makeup on Instagram, there is still nothing better to me than to pick up a magazine and see the beautiful images on the glossy pages. I guess I’m just old school! With that being said, you can imagine my excitement when I picked up the 10th Anniversary Issue of Southern Weddings Magazine to find an editorial from us AND a beautiful bride/friend of mine! Best. Day. Ever.
Earlier this year, I was humbled and surprised to find out that Ash and Co. was named one of the Top 11 Best Hair Stylists by Southern Weddings. I died..like..literally died. To have that honor, and be able to be a part of this special issue, left me speechless. All that you can want as an artist is to have people see your work and hopefully, like it. So, to receive this recognition, from a publication I admire so much, was the best early Christmas present ever!!!
“A dream remembered” as the editorial is titled, is exactly that. It was such a pleasure (as always) to work with the fabulous team at Southern Weddings, because they are great about giving you the inspiration for the shoot, but then trusting you to do great work. I was lucky to work with an adorable couple and a great creative team, which always makes the day even better!! Uh.. and did I mention that I was also able to use the super talented Emma Katzka’s hairpiece? Yep!
The inspiration for me was pure romance. The dreamy style for the hair and makeup is something that I loved doing, especially since my usual aesthetic is a little edgier. This girl had the best, thick hair to work with. I tried to keep all of the curls soft and swept back effortlessly. Leaving a few pieces “perfectly imperfect” and having them intentionally falling out is quite difficult to do, but the end result was worth it! Southern Weddings is known for being classic, pretty, and, well, southern. Knowing my audience, I kept her makeup fresh faced with pops of warm pink to accent the gold hair piece.
I’d love to get your feedback and hope you enjoy seeing these images, but I gotta tell ya, the glossy pages are still better!
